Got this 70 GMC 1/2t LWB last Friday. Seat is ROACHED. This will be a low budget build, just trying to get it on the road and useable, then do repairs/upgrades as I drive it.

Anyway, my seat doesn't have springs, just foam and some thin wires back to front in the frame. Am I missing springs or was it designed this way?? I plan to just stuff it full of foam/seat cushion or whatever is soft and cover it with a "mexican blanket" for now.

No idea?? Seat back folds forward, seatback seems a bit thinner than others I have seen. I can look at bolt holes and how it's mounted tonight. I ASSuMEd it was but who knows with these 50yr old trucks.

I don't think it's original to any truck from '68-'72. Don't know if it's from any other Chevy.
First- I don't believe the 1970 truck seats folded.
Second- None of our seats had what appears to be a plastic piece covering the hinge.

It closely resembles the 81-87 Chevy/GMC seats. Looking solely at the plastic hinge cover. I think those seats had the series of wires with small coil springs attached at the rear, but I also think they had thicker twisted wires (like you see tightening up farm fences) that ran from side to side across the seat's width.

Wow!! Thanks for the quick responses. Looks like a 81-87 to me. Good to know I could recover it properly if I choose to in the future. My truck is kind of a frankenstein I guess. In the frame pic Sick472 posted it doesn't look like I should have any springs on the front or side. Which is good news. I can just get some foam, do some spray glue repair and cover it with blankets. I'm gonna use one large blanket for each half and do the hogring deal to it. Should be a cheap $50 deal to get me sitting ok for now.
