cab swap viability
Good morning all,
I am looking at swapping an 82 cab onto my 79 due to the rust on the 79. Is this a straightforward swap as far as swaps go or is that not a good match?

Re: cab swap viability
Are both the same 2wd or 4wd?
82 is a good year as far as wiper motors, linkage, etc work and clear the 80-down hoods. (1984 was the cut off for the old style) 1982 is still ok with your existing steering column and such (dash mount wipers lasted to 1983) But there are negatives. One downside is you will have holes in the firewall/cowl for the hinges - 81-up the hood mounted on hinges in slots in there instead of the fender style mounts. Those should be removed with patches welded in to clean things up. Dash wiring harness connectors to the engine bay and front lights at the wiring block.... that I'm not familiar with and you should check. Doors you will need to either go with 81-up door panels or swap the interior door pull handles to the 1977-1980 style. That might cover most of it. Obviously the gauge clusters changes to orange and 85 mph from blue and 100s... |
