2005 Yukon XL - loose steering wheel
I wanted to open a second thread, so more members might have a fix to this problem.
A 2005 Yukon XL, I hope to buy.... but I just found out by driving it, the manual steering wheel height adjuster...... Adjust it to the highest, or to the bottom and the steering wheel seems tight. But, in the middle positions it comes loose and drops down ( with a little bit of pressure) Especially when you turn. Not good. Anyone have knowledge on a fix? I will be going to a dealer on Monday, but some inside info may help!

Re: 2005 Yukon XL - loose steering wheel
The loose steering wheel adjustment is due to a warn out spring ( looks like a short valve spring)..... It holds the steering release lever in place, to keep it locked.
$10 for spring..... 1 1/2 hr labor.

Re: 2005 Yukon XL - loose steering wheel
It was not a spring that was causing the wheel to not lock into position.
The spring is to help the wheel move upward as you choose to raise the adjustment. I found the problem is a 'catch' that locks the wheel movement. It doesn't always "catch into place" to lock. The best way to describe it is, if it doesn't lock, you get a long/thin flat screwdriver ( or an awl), and carefully, stick it into the little gap behind the manual adjusting lever, and 'help' the catch by pressing downwards, drop into place. ( pictures would help this description)..... The 'catch' is black colored.... the knuckle is aluminum, when you struggle to see inside the tiny gap. I can bet it is a manufactures defective design flaw
