Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
While cleaning out my rented storage facility and separating trash from treasure, i came across my old small block manifolds from one of my trucks which had a 307
Worth cleaning up and keeping? Im likely not going to have a small block truck ever again though , -- if they are $20 items, they will just be tossed onto the "free to good home" pile

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
well here is one that most of you guys don't know the 307 is very hard to find. There kinda what most of us racer are looking for.
Get this the 307 has the large jernoal Crank block Now stay with me In 1966 and 1967 there was a care that had a large Jernoal 327 and that car was the NOVA.The only care that got the large crank 327. You put a 350 crank into a 307 you have a 327 with large jernoal that motor will scream blowing the 350 off the road |

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
If you want to get rid of these manifolds, I'll take them as I have a 307. Thanks

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
Thanks for the input guys'
They didn't get trashed --- the guy with the shop next to my storage place made me an offer for all my small block stuff that I couldn't refuse --- literally an hour after I posted this inquiry --- He said the same thing -- they are good manifolds and the street rod guys' love 'em , so I am confident they will go to a good home

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
I find that statement hard to believe since both will have the same crankshaft throw of 3.48, while the 350 will have larger bore of 4.0 inches.

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
I just bought a 69 c10 and it's on it's way...should be here the 24th? The person i bought the truck from put all the spare parts in a big tool box with new Ram horns. I have to laugh because at first i had no idea what he was talking about. He said there is nothing wrong with the ram horns on the truck but had a new set machined to install due to rust. He was told from the original owner it was a 350, but after he decoded the engine it was a 307. He had them machined....is there a gasket that in there? I saw on another thread some put a gasket on some don't. Trucks are new to me...i'm most familiar with 1st gen camaro's. Good thread I won't throw the ones i remove away!

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
I was told by a local Harley shop owner shortly after getting my truck that factory originals were rare. He said even if I replace them with headers (which I won’t) to keep them because hot roddders’ and rat rodders’ will pay good money for them. I can’t remember exactly what he said but it was in between $100-$200 a piece. If he was telling the truth about the price I don’t know.

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
Don't throw the ram horns away! They are a very sell-able item. Check out ebay they go from 75--200. Some of the best exhaust manifolds made by GM for the small block.

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
I got set straight on the 307 no you can not put the 350 in the 307 crank hits the block.
On the Ram horn modals I use to haul my cast iron into this place that use to make manhole covers. When i bought my cast in I use to pick up the Ram horns and Big block 396-427-402-454 exhaust manifolds.Even one told me i was wasting my time they are not work anything. That's back in 1995.I have 15 sets some with the ALT backet holes for the 1960--67 |

A 307 crank (3.25) in a 350 block will be a large journal 327.

Re: Rams horn manifolds -- keep or toss
Those are great to bore out. Lots of steel there.
Can almost make headers from them

Had a 327 in a light weight 69 Nova once, and that built R.P.M.'s quick, but with a loss in bottom end torque I suspected. ETA: The crankshaft was a small journal forged unit that I gave to a machinist friend, who had it magnafluxed and said that there was a crack in it so bad, that had the engine been built into a high revving motor, the shaft would have grenaded! OOPS! All's well that ends well. Last edited by BRL; 04-19-2018 at 03:22 PM. |
