tach dash
Was lucky enough to buy a 71 gmc w/ a tach dash, but it does not work. I have the original wiring harness and is connected correctly. 12v to the tach and other side to the negative side of the coil. Any ideas??????

Look for breaks in the circuit panel. Just a thought.

The tach could be broken and need replaced. We have new ones if interested. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I would make sure the dash is grounded, 12 volts are at the tach itself, and check the wire to the coil for continuity. Tachs can go bad, but my experience has been good with the tachs, no failures out of the (7) originals that we have and most of them we have had for over (8) years.
Since the tach hooks up directly, the printed circuit would not have anything to do with the tach. We hook our tachs to the "unfused" ignition terminal on the fuse panel. Jim |

Even if the inst panel has a good ground, i would try to ground the tach its self too. Can't hurt if the other wires are all good.
