Hello, first post, just got a 1968 C10. I am tall at 6'4" and I need more leg room. I know my options are few as in a thinner seat. Has anyone had this issue and what did you do?

I traded for this truck and want to put a six speed in it. If i cannot get more room that is out and I probably sell.

I can't fond it right now, but there was a thread on this. Everyone wanted to put seats out of a 05-06 Chevy, but their to thick and you lose leg room. I know the early 90's bench seat looks good and give some leg room.

Yeah, I'm with you. At 6'3" I also need all the room I can get. When I got my C10 it already had a seat out of a late 80's, maybe early 90's truck or Suburban, not sure which. It's not the split bench. Just solid across seat and back. The advantage of those type seats is that the back is not overstuffed, so you can sit back a little further. It's not ideal but it's quite adequate. I find the proximity of the gas and brake pedals to be more annoying than the lack of legroom.

I'm 6'3" and mine has buddy buckets that I think the PO had the foam shaved and gas tank is moved to the rear. I have good leg and head room. Only problem is the pedals seem a little close together,but I wear a 15 shoe so that is a common issue for me. I would say with seat and gas tank work it's definitely possible.

Just thinking. Remove tank and find or make some low back buckets or bench that can move into the area of the tank. Haven’t actually looked for this reason so not sure how much room you could gain. Just a thought.

I'm 6'2" and no problem but my legs are on the shorter side for my height. I've noticed that the tilt column gives me more room for my knees, if that helps!

My truck is also factory buckets - I've got a feeling they're better than a big bench, but I can't prove it.

I'm 6'5" so I've looked into it as well. Seats out of like the '88-98 seats are quite a bit thinner. I went with Buddy Buckets for the '67 as its suppose to give you the most room for a factory seat.

I've driven Ridtech's truck that has the TMI seats which are thinner and sit lower, but I found the angle with the pedals to not be very comfortable.

I spent some time looking over James Otto's '66 truck and they did some pretty cool mods to help him fit (if I recall he's like 6'6"). They recessed the buckets under the rear window and actually bumped out the firewall to push the pedals back 2-3". I'm seriously considering this for my '67.

I am 6' at most convenience stores. Here is what I have done to help the ergonomics and I found them all over the years on this great forum. 88-94 Silverado bench seat. Relocated the steering column 1.5" down. Smaller steering wheel with little dish. Cut the steel brake pedal lever near the top at a 45 degree and re-welded so that it is closer to the floor. All these things made the truck fit me. Hope this helps.

After looking at seats and sitting in the truck. I don't think a seat will fix the ergonomic issues I have with the truck. I am going to sell her.

Wow, really, do I have one? What makes you say that? Can you not handle that the ergonomics are an issue for me? My head is hitting the roof, my knees are too high. Sliding the seat back a couple of inches is just not going to fix it. I wonder why I would go to the trouble to post if I don't have a truck? I have better things to do.

I am not sure how to post a picture on here. Don't know that I need to, just to satisfy an insolent dick. Ok, so posting a picture was not hard they are attached just for you.

Truck is vey nice, hate to sell it. Wanted to put a tremec six speed in it. So I am bummed it is not going to work out. If I really did not have a truck I would not ask questions or be bummed. Do you feel better now?

I feel better now! Thanks for the pics. Some people get on here and ask questions just to try to get people stirred up and talking only to find out they don’t have anything to do with trucks. Nice truck, hate to see you get rid of it. But I know sometimes it isn’t worth the hassle.

It is a nice truck, has new motor, new tires. I can drive it as an automatic, I don't think the six speed will work due to the ergonomics. If it don't sell then I will drive as an auto and put some thin seats in it.

I’m 6’ and my truck fits pretty well, certainly not headroom issues, but I’m fairly long leg. I could see you having problems with one or the other, but am surprised you have trouble with headroom AND legroom. Do you have full foam seat option? There are different thicknesses to stock seats. What part of TX Are you in?

The seat is pretty thick. I could get back some with a thinner seat which will help. If I go lower it seems it won't be good. Maybe going back would be a big improvement . Unfortunately I would have to gamble with a set of seats. I might have to move the tank, too. Just more than I planned on at the moment.

The seat is a good place to start. There are a few pedal mods you can do to move the pedals closer to the firewall, however that requires some fabrication and it's not really switchable once you do it. I'll see if I can dig up a few other mods you can do that I have saved. I'm 5'11 and a bigger guy, so I've done some research to get the most out of the room I have in my '67.

I will point out that there is a huge difference between 6' and 6'4"-6'5". If I was 6' I would not have a problem. I would have a sports car!

Hi Ron. I'm tall and fat. I couldn't steer my truck because of my belly. There is a thread some where on here about shorting the steering column. I removed my bench and bought buckets and seat frame from Summit Racing. After installing them, my head almost hit the ceiling. I shortened the legs on the frame a couple inch's. I now enjoy driving my truck.

you guys are starting to worry me now, I am 6'3" and when I quit driving my truck I had no problems. it sat for years and now I am working to get it back on the road. problem is I have gotten Fat. I may have problems. I would hate to see you get rid of a goos looking truck like that for a seat issue. there has to be a work around.

Not totally giving up since it sounds like some tall people are making it work. I have a friend that has a lexus that has seats in it that have potential. Finding some will be the challenge. They look thin and are full power so they have maximum adjustment.

2" in the legs and 2" in the torso if you are even-bodied! But if you are more one than the other it's only an inch on the low and then 3" on the high. Which suggests you would have trouble with leg room OR head room but not both.

I was wondering where you were at as I was going to suggest we compare seats if you were closer.

I sold my 240z last year after having owned one for 25 years straight. But with the stock seat all the way back, I couldn't reach the pedals! So if sports car is what you are jonesin' for, there are plenty where you will fit.
