Door jamb striker nut gone/missing?

My cab is an 87. It was mostly stripped down when I painted it nearly 20 years ago so I can't remember all the details.

So my jamb has a rectangular opening with nothing behind it for the striker to thread in to.

It doesn't appears anything was torn/broken away from the backside of the cab. Its the same on both sides.

Ive searched around and it appears there was a cage nut that was maybe welded in place originally?

I don't want to weld anything at this point as everything is painted. Has anyone just used a large washer and nut on the backside to mount their striker? I imagine the cage nut had some movement in it anyway so using a nut shouldn't be much different.

Thanks in advance.

Search for it behind the panel, behind the rear speaker. The striker nut is not welded, so once the striker is removed, it will fall to the floor in between the panels.
I found this out when I put new striker bolts on my truck. I about sh!t, when I heard it fall. I was thinking it would be between the panels and I would not be able to retrieve it. But it was laying back behind the speaker.

Re: Door jamb striker nut gone/missing?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately if they fell and I removed them I can't find them at this point in the build. Is there anything special to it? I don't see anything that would keep it from turning even if it was in a cage. At this point I figure a nut and washer will serve the same purpose.

Since your in Columbus, run to the Pick-N-Pull, they have a truck in there you can get them from. I was just there last week, when the truck came in. I went and grabbed the seat. It's out in Row 73.
