Trans crossmember

OK, I know there must be a trick to this. I can't get the rear automatic trans crossmember out from between the frame rails. I got all the bolts removed, did manage to drop the th350 trans out by moving the crossmember all the way back. Would love to clean and paint it before installing the new trans.

Help

Re: Trans crossmember

Need more info. You should be able to tap one side forward or back enough that it comes out then pull other side out.

I think you will have to move it forward again. It should come out though.

Re: Trans crossmember

If you remove the rivets for the upper brace it becomes a lot easier. 3/8'' bolts 1'' long going back together

Re: Trans crossmember

I ended up just leaving it in and cleaned 50 years of greasy gunk best I could. I considered removing the rivets for the upper brace. Just surprised the made it fit so tight
