68 c30 stepside
Here is a 68 50th anniversary cst c30 stepside I found the other day. It is rusty but I could not pass it up. It was a cool truck back in the day. 327 with a 4 speed. My photobucket wont work anymore so maybe these links will work for a temporary solution.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
So cool. 50th's are awesome and a stepper to boot. Nice find. I probably would not have passed it up either.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
I owned this truck briefly a couple of years ago, bought it from a guy in southern Indiana. It had been sitting in a field for a while. It was actually a 9 foot step side truck from the factory (133" wheelbase) that someone (unfortunately) cut down to an 8 foot. As uncommon as 9 foot step side trucks are and considering it a CST, 50th anniversary truck with buddy buckets, I figured it to be a very rare truck from the factory. I sold it to a board member who was from Florida, I guess that's how it got down your way. Best of luck with it.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Yes the truck has been cut down behind the rear fenders but I like the way it looks. Did you ever try to get it running?
The transmission shifts like a close ratio np445. |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Nifty! My screen isn't quite big enough to look at the pictures...LOL
My 68 Golden was in a little bit better shape when I got it in 1980 My seat material is same color and pattern. Visors should be gold. Mine is bench, though.... Did it have carpet? gold? Engine still in it/ rebuild-able??? Wish they'd make a 68 anniversary sub category, we could keep track of Golden stuff easier. Last edited by 68Gold/white; 05-30-2018 at 02:56 PM. |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Congrats on the truck purchase. I looked long and hard at that when Dave had it for sale. I feel it could very well be a 1 of 1 in existence. I have some parts you might be interested in.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Sorry about the pics. I tried a new image hosting site and they did not turn out right. It looks fine on my phone but on the computer screen they are full size shots.
The truck would have had carpet when new being a cst. The engine is the original YS coded 327 I believe. Cypressbog I got the pics you sent me of the bed parts. I will need those parts to fix the shortened bed. |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
I never tried to get it running, but the guy I bought it from told me it ran, barely. He hadn't had it long and he had bought it from the longtime owners. When I saw it I just had to have it but after it sat in my driveway for a while, it had to go.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
This could be one of the rarest 67-72 GM trucks ever and as mentioned very likely a 1 of 1. I love 9 ft steppers.

I didn't know that a CST would have carpet. When I got mine, it had a funky pattern indoor/outdoor carper glued to the cab floor AND inside the bed... A 68 327 should be a large journal block, meaning that it should NOT have that extra hole back by distributor hole for the crank case breather setup, that all small journal blocks had.....meaning that you could easily put a longer stroke crank in it, 350 or 383. Not sure if any of the import cranks are made for small journals... Hope you can restore the bed back to 9' |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
What a crime someone committed chopping it up. And they didn't even do it right. Just a shame

Re: 68 c30 stepside
LOL I know folks like SWB trucks and all but I've never heard of someone cutting a long bed down to a long bed.
All joking aside I completely agree with Tim... |

I've seen it done for pickups that a wrecker unit was installed on. That made sense. someone obviously didn't appreciate or know what they had

Re: 68 c30 stepside
The guy I got it from said that a previous owner had a camper on it. Maybe they shortened it so that an standard eight foot camper would fit? A shame regardless.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Since it’s chopped behind the rear really wouldn’t be hard to put it back to a longhorn . If it were mine I’d go that rout .

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Nice options. Most C 30 stepsides were bought as workhorses, however this one looks like it was originally purchased for recreational use. Like the 4.10 ratio option, intended for highway use back in the day, most are found with 4.56-5.13.

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Hey guys
I still have the truck. I haven’t been on the forum for over a year. My dad had been in bad health all of 23 so I haven’t had time for trucks lately. He passed away back in December so im slowly getting over that. Surprised to see this thread revived from so long ago. I have a junk 1 ton I can fix the back of the frame with. The hard part is finding some 9 foot bedsides for it. |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Praying for you...
I'd guess that you'll have to do some splicing to make the bed sides. A lot of work I'm glad you still have it. A rare find. My 68 Golden is not in great shape, but a fuzz better than yours. Mines a LWB, thankfully. Carry on!!! |

Re: 68 c30 stepside
Sorry about the loss of your father.
Some time ago Cypressbog had some 9 foot stepside parts, not sure if he does anymore.
