Help finding partial vin on engine block

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to find out if my engine is original or numbers matching to my truck. Its a 1972 c20 Cheyenne with a 350. My engine block doesn't appear to have a partial vin stamped on the passenger side front of the block. My truck was built in canada, is it possible that the Canadians stamped the partial vin somewhere else on the engine block?

Re: Help finding partial vin on engine block

These trucks did not come with the VIN stamped on the block so 'numbers matching' like the cars was never included....and that didn't start until sometime in the mid 70's for GM on the trucks.
(.......the cars are a different story)
What you will see on stamped on that engine is a code that defines when and where the motor was built as well as what size of engine and what type of vehicle it was destined for.
(ie: day and month built, plant location, series of truck..10, 20, pickup, van, etc and also whether it was an automatic or standard)

From there you can pretty much estimate if that is the original engine.

It's a metal plate about 3x2, that was attached to your owner protection plan booklet in the glovebox. Your VIN is embossed on it as well as your engine, trans and rear end numbers.

How about that! I do still have that plate, and the engine numbers match what is on my engine block. Thank you!

Re: Help finding partial vin on engine block

Awesome, that's as close as you can get to numbers matching with our trucks. Still with the engine ID number match, it isn't reasonable to assume anything other than original engine. That is your original engine. You can also match up your tranny and rear end.
