Exhaust manifold question
Can I use the straight down exhaust dump cast manifolds on a 327 in a 67 C-10 coil spring truck without any crossmember conflict? I am having built a 327 to produce 300 HP and thought I should use corvette fuelie 2-1/2" manifolds. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Exhaust manifold question
I have looked into it and in a 4x4 yes it's easy. I have seen 2 2wd trucks done but it is extremely tight and good luck getting it off when needed. The bend is very tight right off the manifold.

Re: Exhaust manifold question
This was a L6 I removed the 6 manual cross member and installed a factory V8 stock manual cross member and used stock V8 engine mounts in the front holes, There's room for 2 1/2" pipes .

Re: Exhaust manifold question
6 and v8 mounts are the same - except rubber engine mounts - just in different locations. you use the 6 cyl location with a v8 and theres room but engine is back further

Re: Exhaust manifold question
I'm just setting mine up in the stock location . would there be more room if you used the 6 parts on the 8 ,Sure but it fits using the stock V8 parts

Re: Exhaust manifold question
So, did any small block 2wd trucks come with straight dumps or were they all from 4wds? My experience is mostly with 4wds and I assumed all 2wds used curved. I have some manifolds I need to identify, curved/straight and with/without alt/ac mounts

Re: Exhaust manifold question
This a good article to look through on the subject. I contacted the author to confirm that the straight down Tru Ram manifolds fit ok.

Re: Exhaust manifold question
One other thing to think about, I don't know if the Vette left manifold has the alternator mount holes but if it doesn't you could run into an issue using the stock 67 C10 alternator brackets. If you're cylinder heads have both holes on the end you could use the 71 72 truck alternator bracket set up that bolts to the head that way keeping the original short water pump set up.

Re: Exhaust manifold question
I got a set of Sanderson shorty headers from a member who had them on a C/10. I trust him, but does that sound possible? Would the engine have to sit back in the 6cyl mount holes?

Re: Exhaust manifold question
These are block hugger style, center dump.
Also, when you guys smooth the manifolds, do you mean just all the nubs and such or do you take ones with cast brackets and cut them out and smooth?

Re: Exhaust manifold question
if you use tight mandrel bends and tig it all together you can do a nice job but it takes time, fitting etc. it also helps if you wrap the p/s pipe next to starter to keep heat soak out of it. there is no performance gain to 2.5 except for hi-compression engines. lastly make sure you can get starter off and on

Re: Exhaust manifold question
Thanks again. I may smooth up on some old style ones I have if no one wants for original restoration.

Re: Exhaust manifold question
blast them inside n out then have them surfaced flat, then see if you have to elongate mounting holes then polish. bbq grill paint does real nice also
