key and rack alignment
Hi all,
I took apart my rack yesterday to replace the wiper switch, now that' I'm putting it together i noticed that the pin that locks the steering wheel had a little plastic piece at the end that broke off. how critical is it? can it be fixed or does it need to be replaced? Also, What is the right way to align the ignition switch with the rack? I can't get it to go from accessory, to lock to run to start. |

Re: key and rack alignment
Are you talking about the steering column? What year?
A lot of little pieces in there that need to be put back together correctly. That may be your ACC issue. Pics of the plastic piece that broke? I've taken mine apart a few times and do have some pics that might help, once I know exactly your area of problem.

Re: key and rack alignment
My apologies.
1990 suburban square body, R1500, 2wd Yes it is the non tilt steering column. I found this on another site for the steering wheel locking pin and the plastic gear that fits in the lock cylinder and connects to the rack in the picture above... |

Re: key and rack alignment
You can pick up a new kit off of Amazon.
https://smile.amazon.com/Crown-Autom...97AS75R6YQ37XD It is a little tricky to get everything back together working again, but here is a pic before I took mine apart. Might help you figure out how it goes back together. The plastic Knob has to go into the sliding key cup.
