71 steering column
I could use some help. I'm working on my column, replacing the turn signal switch.
I have the switch out and decided to clean up the 40some years of crud. One of my problems is the shift indicator lens. Is this the correct one for my '71 c10 with turbo350 trans?? Another problem is the upper bearing. My steering shaft is loose in the bearing. Should it be tight with the brg mounted? I can use all the help you can give me. thanks mike

Is it a standard or tilt column? Are you checking the bearing with the column assembled or apart? LockDoc

Re: 71 steering column
Hey, Leon, I checked it with only the steering wheel off. Sorry I didn't see your post, for some reason it went to spam.

Not sure my brain is working correctly but I think the cone on the bottom of the cancelling cam holds the bearing in place and keeps everything centered. The steering wheel holds everything down and puts a little pressure on the bearing. I would try it with the wheel back in place. It wouldn't have to be torqued down but should be snug. Someone will correct me if I am all wet here.... Not surprised about the spam thing, some of my friends keep telling me I am "persona non grata" LockDoc
