Question LT-1 swap questions

I may be able to purchase a wrecked 96 Impala SS really cheap, has anyone put the lt1 motor in their trucks ? If so what do I need to do to have a speedo (the over-drive has wires but no cable) is there a sender that will fit in the tranny so I can hook up the cable.

i dont know but there are people here that have them... you have to use a speedo for the lt1. either the factory one or an aftermarket one.

If you are dead set on keeping the original speedometer, you can do it one of two ways. There is a company that will take the electric signal from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor on the transmission), and convert it to a motor that will spin the cable for your original speedo. I think they were about $300 or so. Street and Performance has tailshaft kits to install a different tailshaft on the transmission (4l60e) so that you can plug your speedo cable into it like stock. It also has the VSS, so the computer will work properly. I just used an electronic speedometer for mine.

Or you could take an electronic speedometer remove the needle, take the electronic part and mount it on an original face and install the original needle. Or you can get the box that minibike spoke of here:

Abbott makes a box caleld the Cable-X . It takes the digital signal from the tranny and spins a cable to drive the speedo. I ran one of these a few years in my Camaro and it worked great. They aren't cheap and have gone up about $50 since my purchase. When I purchased mine I was even able to talk the guy into an even lower price.
