Convert factory radio to digital
Wanted to post this for anyone who hasn't seen them before, but I finally installed my factory radio which I had sent in to Gary Tayman quite some time ago for conversion to digital. I've made it a point to make my truck have modern features, but look like factory. This has probably been one of the best upgrades to stick to that mindset. I sent him the original AM radio from my truck, and I got back a radio with AM/FM/Line in/Bluetooth. The sound has been pretty good, I installed a single dual voice coil speaker in the middle of the dash so it's never going to be amazing with my setup, but the audio is clear and crisp. It's great being able to have all the modern options for audio source. I also like that all the mechanical portions of the radio work as originally designed (tuner, presets, volume, etc)

Re: Convert factory radio to digital
I did the same thing. I dn't have it hooked all the way up yet as the truck in still a work in progress. How is the radio tunning, is it hard to find a station.
2 selling points for me on the radio was stock look with the better techonolgy, and theft deterant who would want to steal a stock am radio?

Re: Convert factory radio to digital
I wish someone sold the Aurora design circuit boards retail for us DYI guys.
OK, I did find a couple on eBay. Not cheap between $200-$300 just for the PCB board.

Re: Convert factory radio to digital
I found the only thing I don't like about the radio. If you leave the radio turned on, the next time you go to start the truck it always switches bands. It switches because of going from power at the run position to no power at crank and back to power again. Not a big deal I just try to remember to turn the radio off all the time.

Re: Convert factory radio to digital
If you got tired of that you could power the radio from a time-delay relay so it doesn't come on until after the truck is running.
