Picked up the 3;55 from the machine shop today

Picked up the torque tube with the upgraded 3.55. Machinist was hard to find but he did an outstanding job. Made sure the lash was perfect. Just need to drop it back in to the rear axle. Does anyone know if these driveshafts are interchangeable or not with all 49 3100 rear ends? I'd like to drop this one into another truck than which it came out of.

Should be interchangeable parts as long as the housings are the same. Simply meaning that if you hadn't swapped gears you probably wouldn't have given swapping the thirdmember/torque tube between housings a second thought and would be done already.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Picked up the 3;55 from the machine shop today

I did the tear down of the 4.11 and then did as much work as possible on the 6 foot Pinion and ring gear set up for 3.55, then brought these 2 large parts (pinion shaft, ring gear on Third member) along with the spider gears etc.. to the machine shop and a guy with 42 years rear end experience doing cars and trucks of all sizes. No one would do the job but this guy said "I look forward to the challenge of an old Chevy, done so many Jeeps". It looks so good I want to put it in my running 3100 which is still 4.11.

Cool, I understand that. As long as it is the same wheelbase with a trans set up for a torque tube you should be good to go.
