454 Mechanical fuel pump

I’m posting this here because my 454 came out of a late 70’s to early 80’s truck. I now have it in my 94 SWB. It’c carburated with the use of a regulator and electric fuel pump. Long story short, it caught fire and left me stranded. Where it was a Guy said he could fix it, I had planned to switch to a mechanical fuel pump “when I had time” but I figured this guy could do it and save me the tow $$. The motor has the pump block off plate. I bought the rod and pump, but he says it won’t work? All the videos I have seen, it’s straight forward. Are there any years where mechanical pumps won’t work? It’s still stuck there so I can’t confirm myself. He’s got it kinda rigged up with a ton of fuel line and I’m not happy with 8 feet of fuel line running under the hood.

Re: 454 Mechanical fuel pump

Yes It will work.
You stated it had a block off plate and you bought rod and pump.
Maybe the Original push rod is still in there?
You could get lucky.
Either way make sure the lobe on the cam of the fuel pump rod is on the down side of the cam lobe(NON-Active) and install a new mechanical pump.

Make sure you have the correct length bolts when taking the plate off and putting the pump on.

This is very important!!!
