Most of the door lock kits I see seem to include one door lock with the kit. They only list two locks with the later years. Mine has locks on both doors. I don't really want a different key for both sides. What are my options?

have a locksmith rekey them to be the same. in fact he can probably rekey your existing locks. those are the simplest locks in history, the other day I tried my brand new glovebox key in the passenger door of my 41 and it works

47 trucks only had key locks for the passenger side door. If you have a lock on the driver's door someone added it and there may be some other changes along with it.

You don't by chance have push button doors? You can get drivers side lock cylinders for 52/54 doors with push buttons.

Cars had locks on both doors. The drivers (left) side is the opposite of the right. Both sides the cover swings up and the shoulder to hold it up is on opposite sides of the cylinder. You could get two right side locks and have one re-keyed to match, but the drivers side cover would swing down. Get a set for a car.

I recently replaced my right side key cylinder and wanted it to match the back door on my Panel Truck. I got a good used cylinder, dismantled it, and replaced the wafer tumblers to match my old broken cylinder. I used a microscope and tweezers, it was nerve wracking.

I have rearranged and filed the wafer tumblers to match a key before. A lesson in patience for sure.

I'd have to take a left latch out of a door but don't believe that there any provisions for the piece from the key in left side door latches. Could be wrong but I'll go pull one out of a 51 door I have just to check.

Thanks guys. The drivers door was 3/4 disassembled when I got the truck. I knew the passenger side had a lock and for some reason thought the drivers side did also until I looked at it this morning. I was wrong. I'm changing the latches to a set from a newer vehicle so iI the to build the linkage anyway. Thinking really hard about adding a driver's lock cylinder. It's getting power locks also and I'll probably be using those most of the time anyway but I like the idea of a manual way to unlock them.

Manual on the passenger side will get if you have a power failure and you won't have to hassle with trying to figure out how to get the lock set up on the drivers side. In is in no matter what side you open especially with power locks.

I modified the original drivers side latch to add the lock.
The latches are mirror copies except for the missing lock piece.
I took the passenger side apart to use as a guide for the drivers side.
Hardest part was getting the center right. It has a hole on one side and a raised cylinder shape on the other side that the lock arm swings on.
Just add the lock hole in the door and nobody will even notice the change.
