Swing out tire carrier for 1971 K20 pickup

Hi Folks, I want to convert my 71 K20 to EFI. The in the tank pump doesn't play well with the behind the seat fuel tank. Does anybody know of a swing out carrier for the spare tire that will work on the back of the bed. I would rather not have the spare tire in the bed and would like to relocate the tank to the rear of the truck. Thanks, Jack

I'm thinking if you find one off a Blazer that should work. Never thought about using one of those for a truck but like the idea

Re: Swing out tire carrier for 1971 K20 pickup

Unfortunately the attach points for the Blazer don't work with the rear of the K20. Rockhard makes a rear bumper tire carrier that I have on my CJ. I see they are now making one for the Bronco. I am going to look into the dimensions. Maybe I can adapt the Bronco mount to fir my frame rails.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

You could always run an in-line fuel pump and keep the factory tank if it’s strictly about getting the efi to work.

I have considered that and tried it on my CJ7. I was using an Atomic EFI and it didn't like the external pump. I went with an in the tank pump and haven't had any issues since. Thanks for the suggestion.

Make a real steel rear bumper and mount the swing-away up off of that. Keep off the body with your mount. It will need a catch, but you could maybe rig something off the bumper.

Re: Swing out tire carrier for 1971 K20 pickup

Hi Trevor, That seems like the best route so far. I think I can buy the post and pivot and upper tire carrier and attach it to my step bumper and frame with a little bracing. Thanks, Jack

Actually the previous post was meant for Special-K. Trevor, do you have another picture that isn't quite as dark? The shadow blocks out your tire carrier. Thanks, Jack

Check out extreme off road on power block. This was in the last 6 months. They built a complete bumper with swing out tire carrier from scratch with pretty good detail for a Scout.

That's ok. Trevor is a nice name and it starts with a T. Back in HS my coach called me Tony. I never corrected him, I knew who he meant. I figure he might have had it wrong at first, or he just wanted to give me that name. But that's what he called me for two years. I just went out there and did my best and the rest of the team wondered who Tony was.
