Any idea what motor this is?
Bought this 64 c10 recently and I am looking to do a tune up, however I haven't been able to verify that this is the original motor or something put in later. I have been looking for markings on the motor but there is potentially 50 years of grime on it and it is a slow process, additionally searching google for chevy motors hasn't turned up anything that looks exactly like this... Anyone have any idea if it is a 283 or ???
looking to change the oil/filter/drain plug, plugs/wires, new air filter, battery, etc... just looking to make sure I buy the right stuff the first time!!! New to Chevy and new to the forum excuse my inexperience!! thank you in advance!!

Re: Any idea what motor this is?
Definitely late 60s-70s sbc of some sort.
I see a points style distributor, accessory holes on the heads... probably 307 or 350. A safe bet to say to the guy at the parts counter, 1970 c10. As for the air filter, take it in and have it matched up.

Re: Any idea what motor this is?
Thats actually a left hand dipstick engine. it has a spin on filter so most likely a 1968 or later. also has a long water pump, 1969 and later pass car or 1973 and later truck. Are the spark plugs 5/8 " or 13/16" early engines had 13/16" plugs. The stamped ID number is on the block pad under the alternator . The cast block number is on the drivers side of the block below the back of the drivers side head near where the trans bolts on.

What Lumpy63 said /\ /\
My guess would be a '73+ truck engine either a 305, 307, 350 or a 400. I see what looks like maybe the counterweight on the flexplate? I also see what looks like the impression of the middle freeze plug like some of the later 400's have instead of the actual freeze plug. That would make it a 400. The suffix code on the pad below the alternator will tell you exactly what it is.

Re: Any idea what motor this is?
If it's a 400, and you bore it out, pay the extra to have it bored and honed with a torque plate.

Re: Any idea what motor this is?
Captain Fab nailed it! I can see the center freeze plug boss and if you look real close you can see the scalloped balancer. So yes it looks like a 2 bolt main 400 .Just so happens to be one of my favorite small blocks most likely 73-74 vintage.

Re: Any idea what motor this is?
After a bit of procrastination due to the heat... I took the time to take the alternator off today and found this.... after a brief search online it appears to be a 1976-1977 or 1979 400 out of a k20, 2500 or a "van"
thanks for all the help
