Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Just purchased this 1971 c10 and looking forward to getting into it. Pretty distinct logo on door. From what I know It went from SC to TX to IL.
Thanks Adam |

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Some more details ...
Built 350 bored 0.30 over (355) with keith black flat top pistons, lunati crank, lunati voodoo cam, Roller rockers, rocker girdles, pushrod guides, Aluminum heads, wide Gilmer belt drive, holley 650 carb..etc. Freshly rebuilt TH400. been able to poke around but still not sure who built it or its back story. Who would of though "Uncle Larry's" speed shop didn't exist Seems to be a nice driver.. little rough around the edges shop truck. Up next is to relocate shock mounts, and fab some inner fenders, looks to be mostly spring drop, been raining so haven't driven it much |

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
If it was mine, I'd want to know if those KB pistons are forged or hypereutetic...The hyper's can be a problem....
Congrats!!! Now all you need to do is build an Uncle Curly and an Uncle Moe version...... |

Looks cool!
Does that flexible upper radiator hose have any slack in it? Those things are known for pulling the nipples loose from the tanks, if stressed enough.

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
It's a fake patina "shop truck". See crap loads of them on the Hot Rod Power Tour.
I don't know how much is spent to create the fake patina, but it has to be as much as what a good paint job would be. The logo is something someone put on there to give it a story and make it look real. I had a lengthy conversation with a guy on the HRPT about the Studebaker truck he was driving and how the logo he created and had painted on the side of the door was only done 4 months ago and the guy did a great job of aging the paint and making it look like it had been there 40+ years. Sorry for the rant, but fake patina kinda pisses me off. It's like someone wearing medals for being in battle when in reality they bought them from eBay. If you're going to spend the money, put a good paint job on it.

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Well, as is usually the case, it's the people who are trying to pass off fakes that ruin it for everyone else....I think it looks great! I say have fun with it because that's what these old trucks are about.

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Now this is a real “Shop Truck “ with real patina ! Not so much shop, but a furniture store delivery truck. It sat unused behind the store for over 10 years. The store was operated by two gentleman who bought two GMC’s , one for each of themselves. The one I bought is 1/2 ton with automatic, the other was a 3/4 with stick. Every time I drive it people stop me to tell stories about the furniture it delivered to there home or business. I promised not to remove the door lettering. I know it’s not a short bed or lowered, but it’s mostly original with little to no rust , discs brakes and power steering. I call her Olivia because it was originally medium olive.....

What do you think of the 2" wide belt system? Was wondering if it works well. My kids wants that system. I am on the fence about it, but its his truck.

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Great looking truck! As somewhat said previously, it’s YOUR truck-enjoy it!
As for history, you could check with the dmv in Illinois (or the state where seller purchased it) and obtain a previous owner/registration report. From there, you might be able to contact one of the previous owners for the information you’re interested in. In Oklahoma, the tax commission is the “dmv”. There’s a form on their website I can download and submit that will request all available records the Okla Tax Commission has on the vehicle. Good luck!

Re: Just purchased 71 CST shop truck, Anyone know its history?
Thanks all for your comments. Been going over the truck here and there. Just changed fluids. Still making short runs around town until I trust it for longer hauls. So far a nice old truck.. with new paint I guess
