71 GMC 2500 Suspension options
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I've been working through the threads looking for suspension options. I just bought a 71 GMC 2500 and I'm trying to do the inventory to figure out exactly what I have and what I can do. So far I can tell you this:
-Original 402 was replaced with a 350, trying to figure out what 350 is still a work in process -TH400 currently being rebuilt -Dana 60 no idea what gears -Auto on the floor -Non-AC car (need to fix that, not an option to not have AC in Houston) -Bucket seats I am trying to figure out what stance I want to go with stock, lowered, lifted or leveled and I have found options for all with the exception of a leveling kit. Is anyone aware of a leveling kit for the 71 2500? Or if it's feasible? Thanks in advance this forum has some great insight. |

Re: 71 GMC 2500 Suspension options
Big block TH400 would have had 3.54 gears. Dana 60 should have tag under one of the bolts. 3/4 ton GMC most likely leaf spring rear, that limits you to shackles for not much, or new springs for a bunch in the rear.

Re: 71 GMC 2500 Suspension options
I had a 70 Sierra Grande 2500 for a few years. I loved that truck. I left front stock height but did a disc brake conversion. In the rear I ran the lowering shackle in the lower of the two positions so need needing to trim the bed crossrail. I ran 265 75 16 and they filled the wheelwell up nicely. Had a little rake, but that pretty much went to zero with my car hauler hooked up.
I have a 69 short step now that is rear leaf and did a flip on it. That dropped in just over 7" which I don't think I'd suggest for a working truck...
