What Urks you when looking at a used 67-72 truck?

I thought I would start a thread so we could put together items we find that have been done to used trucks we may be interested in that make us laugh or make us walk away.

For me its:
- Painting the entire engine compartment and all components inside, black!

Big gay rims, modern interior, pin striping, skulls, slammed with 2 inch deep bed, automatic.

Forgot to mention... newer bed. I'd rather have no bed.

-$2000 wheels on a truck that runs like garbage
-$2000 stereo in a truck that runs like garbage
-$2000 paint job on a truck that runs like garbage

I think you guys get the point.

Especially when it’s 3 hours away. Then act like you’re pointing out something they hadn’t noticed.

Hey, the garbage cheap paint job goes right along with the garbage truck.

My pet peeve is this: The ad says "fully restored", but it's missing a lot of the original parts needed. It's not restored, it's resto-mod.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

I wouldn't say it "irks" me, but I get a charge out of the $20,000, rare collector truck, "Cheyenne Super!", with rusted out cab corners and rockers, an 80's era steering wheel, aftermarket gauges, and a J.C. Whitney seat cover

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

Liars! I found many things wrong and the owner says something like "That is factory" or "I never had a problem with that."

Having to jump start it when I ask to see it running and then seeing it leaking fuel like the Hoover dam! I actually hooked up a horn wire once just to find when the owner connected the battery the horn did not stop blowing.

Plus all of the above;
New model beds/wooden beds
Big rims
Missing pictures of interior
Missing pictures of engine bay
And the all too famous "It was running fine when I put it away."

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

When a seller thinks that all the money he/she sinks into a vehicle, for parts and labor, makes the vehicle worth that much. Then on the other side there are those that believe it.
A few short years ago, a numbers matchin Muscle Car could be had for around $10k, and good survivor trucks like ours could bring 3-4K, but now prices are insane.

I hate a truck that has been lowered..... Serves no purpose.

Most lowered trucks have ridiculously huge rims. Heresy I say!

The flipper that takes one picture of the truck, still on the trailer, fresh from 20 years outside in the back 40........ 'Barn Find!'

The professional flipper (step above guy above) takes a garden hose to the truck and wets her down for some 'shine' in the picture ..........

The truck you go to see that you can tell I was a great original until this guy got it, took it all apart, stripped all the paint off and threw away the stuff he wasn't going to use.......

99% of these trucks are being sold by a flipper who knows zero about what he is selling...except that he wants twice as much money as he paid for it a week ago. I see the hype over these trucks starting to wear down as overpriced stuff just sits on CL. Everybody who wants/wanted one of these trucks now seems to have one and the up-and-coming folks are after the squarebodies now as that is the latest fad.

I am happy to see this too as now 500 dollar rusted hulks have $3,500 dollar price tags on them. It's insanity.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

Body work done, just needs paint!(Seller primed the whole thing to hide the flaws).
Super thick undercoating!Same reason---to hide the bad stuff.
And,the one I hate the most is when the seller really praises it but neglects to mention the problems. The term "Buyer beware" comes to mind!
Recently rebuilt engine. No proof and it don't look rebuilt either.Nor does it run like it's been rebuilt!
And"Rare".Someone please define rare for me!
And,the Barrett-Jackson pricing!
Mike.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

On the interwebs:

A listing that has Pictures of every fender, every corner, the dash, the seat, the ash tray, the rims, the grill, Not one pic of the whole truck ...NOT ONE.
I see it all the time, 20 up close pics and zero that show the whole rig.

In person:
crappy wiring, bad repairs and spray paint (or primer).

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

I actually had this one happen to me.
Inquire about an original 'survivor' with 'full documentation'. Look at dozens of pictures showing pretty much everything, talk to the seller and arrange to travel 200 miles to look at it. Truck looks and runs fine BUT the seller has only the current title, a couple old registrations, and receipts for an engine rebuild that he had done. No Protecto-plate or any other service records. I explained how important they were but the seller would not negotiate price at all. I was not happy and wasted a long day.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?

"Just needs paint," anything in primer (primer lies), plywood battery tray held together w/ drywall screws. The latter won't drive me away, but it's a forehead slapper.
