Steering column conversion question
My 85 has OEM non-tilt automatic column with cruise. Does not have pulse wipers. I'm getting ready to swap the pedal assembly as part of the 4500 swap. I have an 85 column from a manual trans c30.
Questions: Is swapping the turn signal stalk from cruise to non-cruise a straight-forward swap? I want to add the pulse wiper. Is that just using the correct stalk and some type of module somewhere between the stalk and the motor? |

Re: Steering column conversion question
Delay needs the correct switch and the module at the bottom of the column. The cab wiring plugs into either the delay module or plain ol wiper switch plug. Delay switches are easier to find.
The stalk is just a lever to run the turn switch and a cam to run the wiper switch. The actual switches are buried in the column. A cruise stalk will have cruise switches in the stalk with a pigtail for the cruise switches that gets dragged through the column to the cruise harness.

Re: Steering column conversion question
It appears that a non-tilt, manual column with pulse wipers is as rare as hens teeth. What is it about the 84-87 trucks that the wiper switches are only available for tilt column?

Re: Steering column conversion question
Maybe I spoke too soon. Just found this. Definitely not cheap.

Re: Steering column conversion question
Maybe cheaper to find a complete auto column n swap some pieces around?

Re: Steering column conversion question
Ya, good point. However, I'd still like to end up with a tilt column.
Is it possible to combine parts from my 85 manual column with a 91 auto tilt to end up with a tilt, manual column? If so, I don't mind paying for new parts for the pulse wipers. No desire for cruise. |
