I am redoing my whole brake system, and ran into a problem with the rear brake lines. I bought a new stainless line kit from Right Stuff several years ago. I went to install them yesterday and the lines are not the right length. The driver side is too short and the passenger side is too long.

My truck is 1 71 1/2 ton, coil springs.

Here are a couple of pictures. Does anyone have a picture of how theirs are? My tab is broken off the rear end housing so I could some help figuring out where that attaches as well.

You need the brass union that connects those brake lines together. You will also need to install the missing tab on the axle housing because a spring clip attaches at that connection.

Here is a photo that might help.

Thanks, Pop. The picture definitely helps. I do have the Union as it is part of the brake hose but the tab broke off of the rear end housing. I still have it so I'll just tack it back on. I have ordered some new lines, hopefully they will solve that problem

No need to order more lines.. Simply straighten each bend a very slight amount.. You'll gain the "missing length" easily enough..

A little mini hijack, since these pictures are so good. I think I may have this or similar rear end. Been chiseling 45 years of crud off of it to get a better look, but I could not locate a fill hole for it. How do you check level or fill this thing, do you use the vent tube orifice?

On the driver's side of the pumpkin, there should be a plug. It should be visible, unless someone really didn't care enough to check the diff once in a while.

I read passenger side somewhere yesterday, but didn't get a chance to crawl under and hunt for it yet. But, yeah, you might be right about someone not caring to check it in a LOOONG while. Going to update my thread with questions so as not to hijack this one to badly.
