I just bought a 1965 GMC 1000 short bed pickup, I need both rear parking brake cables. Anyone know where I can get them? Thanks

Try inline tube. They list your truck and part. See link below. Frank

Re: 1965 GMC rear parking brake cables

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm on the opposite end of missing parts. Was out at the JY last weekend and saw a ton of cars with e-brake handles just ripe for the picking. Any thoughts on an e-brake handle that is tranny hump mounted, and attaching the x-member back cables to said handle?

Just wondering if anybody has used some strange vehicles handle mounted up to our original cables.

FYI, I do not have the original x-member due to tranny swap.

f66 was correct about inline tube, they are the only company that makes the proper parking brake cables for the 64-65 GMC short bed pickups. There part # is BST6403 $55.00 each plus shipping. Thanks f66.

Could you take some pics of the end that goes in the drum.

There are retaining springs/clips on the sleeve at the end that goes into the drum. Could you take a pic of that too.

Thanks, I hope it works out.

Re: 1965 GMC rear parking brake cables

I can take pictures when I get them. There are no springs/clips, sleeves, there is a 2 bolt bracket that holds the cable to the backing plate. Chevys have the clips that hold the cable.

I'm using a hand brake handle & ratchet mechanism from an SM 420 on my A833. Is this what you were thinking?

So you are using the lokar rear cables I can see. I like your setup, and that's kinda what I'm looking for. I would like a handle, not underdash mount. I was just wondering if I could match up some sort of newer/random e-brake handle (like Honda civic since theres 5153897 of them in my local junkyard lol,) to the stock cables. but I can see that I will have to run some sort of mid-cable to match up no matter what.

Re: 1965 GMC rear parking brake cables

I used the Lokar cables & clamp/splitter device. The cables were plenty long for my short bed. I just ran each cable down the swing arm. I think I cut two foot off of each cable. I'm not sure how you could attach to a Honda handle. I still have to figure out a boot.
