Having a real bad day - Evaporater Tube Twist

1998 5.7L 2wd Suburban. Buddy of mine put on the new drier and when he did the shop recharging my AC found that he somehow twisted and bent the metal line pretty bad. I did not notice it but that is what the shop is saying. There is not much line coming out of the firewall to the drier so he must have bent it pretty bad for it not to allow Freon to go on.

So is there a fix for this besides the $900 the shop wants to pull the dash and put a new evaporator in?

There is no way to cut this line and fix it somehow?

A 1998 suburban is not worth it to me to spend that kind of money to fix it.
