How can ya tell
So i'm interested in buying a 68 4x4 but it's a c-20 does it matter that it's not a k-20? and if it is a c then what should a guy look at to see if it's a worthy c-20. eg (frame, suspension, drive line)
So If there is anything to look out for and you dudes at guru central could give a fella a hand i'd appreciate it. I just want to cover all my bases. |

first off it would be best to check Vin# I think...if it's an original 4x4 it should begin with a K. If it actually begins with a C it may be a 2wd drive body that's been swaped on to a later model 4x4 Frame. All 67-72 trucks emblems were the same whether they were 2wd or 4wd...like my truck has C10 emblems on the fenders but it's Vin# is KE1...etc, etc. K-being 4wd, E-being V-8, 1-being for a 1/2 ton application...if you get that info other board members will be able to give you a more accurate asessment of things to look out for etc etc......hope this helps

Was Napco still doing 4x4 conversions in '69?

My 72 4x4 has CKE as first 3 letters of VIN. I de-badged it before painting several years ago, but it didn't have a K badge anywhere - had "Custom/20" on front fenders. I think the only 67-72 models to actually use K badging was K5 Blazer.

stocker, you are right...there were no "K" emblems, save the K/5's (which, oddly enough, all wore K/5 badges, 4wd or 2wd). I know offhand that Yukon Jack's K/20 has original looking C/20 badges on the fenders. I believe the K was just apparent in the VIN # to denote 4x4, and in later models actually appeared on the side of the vehicle.
bpmcgee...Napco was still doing 4x4 conversions in '69, but only on C/30's. I know for sure that they did conversions into the 73-up era, but not sure how far. I have seen a couple of Napco converted 73-up C/30's on the internet.
