Choke conversion.

Need help converting my quad jet hot air choke to a manual. The butterfly’s or just zipped open rn. But it’s not going to choke in the winter. My knowledge of carbs is not as advanced as I’d like it to be. My cell service is bad atm. Will provide carb picture if needed. Thanks.

Re: Choke conversion.

Get a kit like this.

Easy to install. Here’s a vid that covers it.

Re: Choke conversion.

You didn't say what year, but why not replace the original parts? My original design choke has worked perfectly since I bought the truck in 2003 and replaced any parts that were not up to par. Adjustments are straight forward and simple.

It’s a 1969 gmc goodwrech crate 350 from jegs with late 70’s quadjet on it. I would just replace the parts. But the carb and manifold didn’t come with the hot air choke tube or the plate that goes on the manifold to run it. I’ve look at every part store on the web and nothing has it. So I’m just going to convert it.

Re: Choke conversion.

Unfortunately at this point parts stores won't have what you want. Here are some links to help you get what you need.

Good luck.

Re: Choke conversion.

I dont know the QJets so I have Doug Roe's Quadrajet book. I like manual chokes and the controle they allow you to have, but it forces you to understand how engine and atmospheric temps affect engine operations on start up and run.

Re: Choke conversion.

For a few bucks more you can put an electric choke on it and not have to fool with a cable. Set it and forget it.

It's what I would do; in fact, I may convert my divorced choke setup over to an electric choke. Maybe next time I rebuild the carburetor. It's a lot more reliable.

Re: Choke conversion.

A picture would help. A late 70s Quadrajet should have an electric choke.
