An SME please?
So I’m toolin’ around in the old rust bucket just running some errands and when I get in the driveway I notice the alternator idiot light on, and the gauge reading 12vdc. That can’t be good, but I find the red wire broken off the alternator so I figure no big deal and repair it. But still no volts.
So here is where our Subject Matter Experts come in. A quick search of the site produces the same problem with a wiring diagram. Great! Read a hit further and “VetteVet” suggests a couple tests. One of which I had not thought of! The long and short of this is through suggestions made back in 2012 I was able to ascertain my alternator was fine, but the reg (original) was shot. Picked one up, do you believe they had one? And it works great! Have to love the expert help available here! Cheers!

VetteVet seems to really know his electrical systems and regularly adds a ton of information.
