Rear Axle codes?

I did a few google searches and nothing came up.

Is there any where I could go to identified the gears in the rear end?

The axle code starts with KAD and is out of a 74 2wd C10.

Did the 73-74 12 bolts come with the posi option?

Look at the parts books. Axle codes are in the first section.

1974 KAD was a C10 axle equipped with a locking diff and 3.07 gears.

You can see that some of the 73 P & G series Vans had positraction. so... GM differentiated between the locker and posi. I don't believe the 73-91 CK trucks got Positrac. Don't use limited slip additive in this axle if it has the original Eaton Locker.

Re: Rear Axle codes?

After 44 - ish years there's really no telling what's in there.

Best bet is to pull the cover and count teeth and replace the gear lube while you are at it.
