4L80E bell housing donor
I have a 4L80E from a LQ4 with a damaged bell housing. The top middle tab is broken off and I'd like to repair it as close as possible to stock. If anybody has a damaged core and has this chunk that they'd part with let me know.

Re: 4L80E bell housing donor
It will be MUCH easier to find a bell-housing from a 60E and just cut the 12 O'Clock tab off of that, file it, sand it, make it fit closely, then go.
At my shop we do this all the time. We use an old engine block to bolt the bell-housing to while welding so that it does not warp. Doing it this way also ensures that the new piece you are welding on is perfectly flat, or in-line, with the rest of the bell-housing and that it is in perfect alignment with the holes in the engine block. Be sure to weld on BOTH sides-inside, and outside. |

Re: 4L80E bell housing donor
Thanks
I made one from aluminum plate after making a template off of a good 4L80E and have acquired a 5.3 block for a jig. My neighbor is a welding instructor and welds up all the trans bell housings for one of the local wreckers. I'd looked at the 4L60E bell housing but that 12 o'clock tab was a lot different. I think I'm closer with the one I made. I'll post a pic when I get it put together.
