If for some reason they won't allow you to change it (contact a moderator) then simply make a new one and let that one die away.

I'd think that the powers that be might be understanding if you gave them the reason for the change and there is no need to give that here.
Just don't make it too hard to spell out for the sake of those of us who may need to mention you in a post. As in I agree with _________ . I continually go back and check the spelling if I use someone's screen name.
