1987 5.7 FI rear main seal replacement question
Can the rear main seal on my 1987 GMC Sierra Classic be replaced without dropping the tranny and going through the oil pan and dropping my rear main bearing cap? Is it a two price or a one piece? If it's a one piece then this obviously isn't an option. Also, does anyone know if an upgraded seal has been made to correct tr leakage issue or was it simply a bad design?

1986 and up motors are one piece rear main seals. Use a Fel Pro performance rear main seal for good quality.

What do you mean by "tr leakage issue"?

Re: 1987 5.7 FI rear main seal replacement question
A motor with a one piece rear main seal will have to have the transmission removed to replace the seal.
