This gets discussed every so often.... hoping there's new (better!) info out there by now.

I haven't been able to find good quality, long lasting OEM-style rubber mats (with tails) for my high-hump '72 K20.
Last ones I bought about 6 years ago looked good at first, but lasted less than 4 years before cracking, splitting, & dry-rotting.

Has anyone found a mat that might be worth trying?

I haven't bought one lately either. The last one I bought for the Longhorn 4x4 a year or so ago was the worst one I ever owned. The truck has 352 miles on it and the mat has completely fallen apart. It Sucks....

Maybe if you put some 30lb tar paper (roofing underlayment) down before mat. Seems that my truck has some kind of tar paper on top of white foam then the mat.
Might help to keep from drying out. Just a thought

Yessir. My truck has always had the white closed-cell foam pad laid down first, followed by a thick heavy tar-like layer (heavier than 30lb roofing), with the rubber floormat on top. When I installed the last mat, the foam and the tarpaper were both in poor condition so I got new ones and put them in. Darned if I can find the receipts though, so I'm not sure where I bought them. I bought the floormat from Wes, so I probably bought the underlayment materials from him too. But I don't see them on his website anymore, just the mat. Which is all I need, but the last one I bought from him is falling apart already, so.....

I used the thick Poly Vinyl full mat and it still looks like new after many years . I know its not the kind of mat you are asking about but another option .

I have seen them advertised but know nothing about them. Would you mind posting a pic or two? That would help me know what it actually looks like. Do you know if it uses the white foam / heavy black tarpaper sound deadener under the mat, same as a rubber mat does?

While not original equipment for a truck, I've used 65-66 Impala rubber mats from Impala Bob's. They have a good assortment of factory colors that match most of our carpets. Other years might work, but I just happened to have some 65 Impalas in the past. They're subtle, think they have a small bow tie if I recall, all rubber, look right at home. Might be worth taking a look if you don't require original truck mats. Also - I have not used them in a high hump, so please check the measurements and make sure they fit your truck - I'm kinda working off a distant memory of using these...

EDIT: I think these are the ones I used - notice they are wide on the inside (trans tunnel) edges so you can trim to fit right up to the trans tunnel. Avail in 3 shades of blue, dk green, red, fawn, black - one of the blues shown. I vaguely remember they wouldn't break up the car-set-of-4... Not cheap, but they looked nice in the truck, like a factory mat. There are year-specific ones also, recommend look thru all to see what works best, maybe not just these. These were a very heavy vinyl or rubber.

My 67 C-10 has the original rubber floor mat, still soft and pliable. Has foam and tar board and is super quiet. Truck is a 250 3ott that purrs like a kitten which helps greatly.
My 70 K5 has carpet that's glued down to the OE front and rear rubber mats (thanks previous dummy)
I managed to get nice used front and back originals from the board with the intent to dump the carpet.
I'm sure the original mats contain more natural rubber than the repros that fall apart in a few years
I'll say it again "carpet is for cars!!!"
But hey I can be a little bias

I think the high school build truck is using one of the full floor rubber coverings. It looks good from what was shown in the thread.

Thanks Dale & Flashed, that helps make my decision. I prefer the appearance of OEM-style rubber mats but can no longer accept their ridiculously short life, especially considering their cost. Those vinyl mats look just fine and since they apparently last quite a bit longer, that's what I'll get next time.

This one has been in for about 6 years and looks like new when it's clean . I'm about to blow this truck apart for an LS Swap and once back together will get a good thorough cleaning . I have been so disappointed with the plug fouling ,oil burning crate motor I have not given it much attention lately .

I, too, like the rubber/vinyl flooring, BUT what's the difference between the original style and the vinyl?...I'm missing something! I would have thought Flashed's flooring was the original style.

It looks like it fully covers the floor and contours to the floor as well. Is it just a different material? Vinyl versus rubber?

It is vinyl and does cover the whole floor but is much thicker than the original style rubber mats . I plan on using another one in my 70 build .

Notice the varied textures / patterns of OEM-style rubber mats, compared to the smoother surface of vinyl:

Also, OEM mats covered the front part of the floor, then just the outer edges were covered by the mat's "tails" going towards the rear of the cab.

Found it, I think, though it says 'under carpet'. Might want to contact them & ask just to be sure but it sounds like the same stuff. GMC Pauls p/n 132823, $50.

How does somebody know what type of hump to order a mat for? When I was buying my carpet, I ordered it from Classic Industries, and the choices included low hump and high hump TH400. Since I have a TH400 I thought that means I need the high hump TH400 choice so I ordered it. There was enough room for me to add a 2x12 board under the carpet at the hump location, so I guess I got the wrong carpet. I like it anyway and now it appears I have a high hump with the board build-up. Are there 3 different hump heights with a 3 on the tree transmission and TH400 automatic are different or just two different heights in these trucks? When I wear out this carpet I think I will change to one of those vinyl mats like Bruce88 put in.
