Off to Paint Prison -- Finally!

It's been a very long time coming. There have been a multitude of problems, and some of them kept coming back to haunt me after I thought they were fixed.
So I wasn't too surprised when I headed out this morning for a 1-hour trip to the body shop. No heat!
I suspect the water control valve is bad again (second new one, NAPA's finest) but we made it.

Got some rust issues to attend to (naturally) and paint, and a bunch of rubber parts including window channels & weatherstrip to be replaced.
Could take 2 to 3 months and I'm sure gonna miss the old warhorse. Can't wait to see her in her shiny new skin!

Can't wait to see it! You need to get the heater fixed, because when you drive home, it's gonna be very cool.

Re: Off to Paint Prison -- Finally!

So the day has come. It will be wonderful to see all freshened. Going to be a real nice feeling getting back at the wheel, no glass rattles and the scent of new paint. I love it!

Not sure how I even remember that, been so long. I am wanting to park and get into my '72 to give it back some love. Just need another truck first. I did just want to do the rockers, patch paint, and window seals. But the dented passenger fender (over 10 years now), original interior paint looking rough, hood paint keeps popping off, Driver door now has mirror damage, and smoked out windsheild has me wanting to do a full cosmetic. Other than that, reseal every stinkin' thing that has a seal in the drivetrain.

Only a few from a couple years ago when I replaced the wheels & tires. Link to that thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...321961&page=45

If you look closely at the first pic, you can see rust bubbling under the paint on the fender behind the tire. The rocker panels are toast and there's perforation in the floor. There's a small tear in the lower pass. bed side. Other than that, and a lot of missing clear coat, she's pristine!

The shop told me they take before / during / after pics & put 'em on a CD so I should have something to post later on.

Re: Off to Paint Prison -- Finally!

Yes sir, same colors it had when it left the Fremont factory in August 1971. Gonna be clearcoated this time, though.

Matter of fact, even with crappy paint and a bit of rust, she got compliments. And everyone either owned one or was related to someone who owned one!
