Hello everyone! First post got a new to me 82’ GMC Sierra k1500 originally with a 6.2l diesel now sbc 350 with np833, which I like. Only a few issues, one being under throttle 3rd gear has some interference which I suspect is a worn synchro. Second and a more perplexing problem for me is my brakes are crap. Hard pedal with very little brake response. I figure the owner before me had the same issue because he replaced the master cylinder, rear brake lines, and rear drum shoes. My main problem is after looking up parts for the power assist booster they only show a diaphragm type when mine is a power steering assist model. They list the kind I have as 83-87 but being a 82’ I’m confused. I’m looking at those because I’ve notice the front rotors barely seem worn like the calipers aren’t working. Tried bleeding the brakes and will try again more thoroughly tomorrow. Any one have similar issues with any remedy. New baby has my time really limited between work and parenting.

Congrats on the truck! You're right in thinking something is wrong with your brakes. You have a hydroboost system and they are very effective when working right and highly sought after. I also have an '82 4x4 that was formerly diesel. It's a 3/4 ton Camper Special and stops nicely, even on 35s.

Here is the generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center collection for an '82 Full size pickup:

That should give you an overview of what options were available, by RPO code and name.

If you are super interested you can send your VIN and $50 and the Heritage Center will return your original invoice, complete with dealer info, build and shipping dates, RPO content and pricing.

My ‘83 K10 was orignally a 6.2 and is now a 350. I replaced my brake booster last year. It had leaked so bad the power steering pump ate a bearing and I finished a 700 mile drive with no P/S or P/B. My pedal was very hrd with little braking effect. I would hazard a guess that ‘82 used the same parts as ‘83 and up for the hydroboost since it was the second year for the 6.2. My truck also stops excellent like LT7A’s.

Thanks for the help guys, I’ll definiitly check out the heritage center. 50 bucks seems reasonable for that. Been meaning to reply to you all, and thank you. My son is 56 days old today so I’ve been a little preoccupied. I’ll tear into it some more and try to figure out if possibly gear oil from bad axle seals fooled up the front brakes or not. I’ll try to get to that tomorrow hopefully. It’s just strange how the rotors don’t show any sign of wear and almost a blueish film over some of the surface
