transmission on a 1970 c10 4x4
Since I am putting a rebuilt 350 out of a 1969 in my 1970 c10 factory 4x4... i figure I should pull that 3 on the tree transmission out- so that i can actually get on the highway without high revolutions... any recommendations? I'm not sure that anything will be a bolt-in- assuming modifications will need to be made (but praying not...) Thanks, Scott

Re: transmission on a 1970 c10 4x4
You can replace 3OTT with a 700R4 K-case, which may require moving the engine forward a little, or add a gear vendors behind the t-case (and only use it during 2WD ops) and retain your 3OTT if you want to retain a manual trans. I’m not sure about NV3500/4500 conversions in a K10, but someone on here has probably done it. 700R4 is not exactly “strong”. GV o/u drive is near bulletproof.
You could also add a TH350 in place of the 3OTT if you want to switch to an automatic (that’s what came in these trucks) but it provides no rpm reduction compared to your 3OTT. Exactly the same highway rpm. Only mention in case you wanted to do that AND add a GV unit to keep the main driveline in a stock automatic configuration. |

I am going to do a nv4500 swap for the overdrive. http://www.advanceadapters.com/produ...spline-nv4500/ Here is the kit I am going to use no idea if it will work for you im sure there are some forms on here about it.

Do you have the Dana 20 transfer case? That's what is usually behind the 3 speed. If so, I would score a NP205 to adapt to your NV4500. At least you can keep driving it as-is until you get the new combo together.

Unless you want an auto that bad i would go with an nv3500 or nv4500. Difference between the two is the nv3500 has the trans and bell housing all together. nv4500 you can seperate the trans and bell housing. although it is more time and a little more money to do the swap, both are stronger than the 700r in my opinion.
