dyno tune or hp tuner?

I have 2 trucks with the lq4 6.0 I can have them dyno tuned for $500 each so $1000 for both . is it better to spend it to have both trucks tuned on a dyno or buy something like the hp, tuner ? where I can try to figure it out and use it on others .

Re: dyno tune or hp tuner?

Unless you are planning on tuning on the side or more swaps in your future, the dyno would be my suggestion.

not really wanting to do tunes on the side but for 1000 maybe I can buy a turner and when I get done just sell it back to someone for less

Re: dyno tune or hp tuner?

well after reading about the dyno tuning and all. I see why its the best way to have it done I was thinking you just run it a few times on the dyno and make a few adjustments. I didn't know it could take about 6hrs to run it thru the dyno . so if I can get a few more horses and the get the transmission shifting like the I want it to$500 doesn't sound bad at all to try it.

Re: dyno tune or hp tuner?

he had mine on the dyno almost 3hrs...Lane didn't unlock that ecm and the guy that did done some weird stuff to it...Lane finally had to go in and wipe it clean and start over...the final pull gained about 60hp over the 1st pull..and he could have turned it up some more but we decided that as good enough..

Re: dyno tune or hp tuner?

If you don't mind my asking, what did Lane charge? I talked to him about working on my TBI when I do an engine swap. He had no issue with working with the old stuff. So many only want to tune OBDII. I forgot to ask what he charges.
