Thinking about flipping my rear axle.

I have. 79 C10. I need to do some research but i lowered the back i think about 4”. As they all say. Not enough. I have shackles and brackets on there. I have a bell tech drop on it. What do i need to do to flip it? I am not going to notch the frame.

Flip kit is just a couple of brackets. You might want a set of lowered shocks or shock re-locators. Also, if you keep the shackles and hangers, you will need to remove the axle bump stops.

You wont actually "flip" the rear end. The kit just allows you to mount the leaf springs under the axle tube. The flip kit alone is good for about a 5 inch drop in the rear.

You will only get the 5 inch drop if you have a very very small diameter axle or the spring pack has been reduced to a couple of springs. The flip kit will lower the thickness of the spring pack plus the diameter of the axle plus about a half inch for the small distances between the flip and the axle. So closer to 7" would be more realistic.

<6 leafs usually yield 6" of drop.
>6 leafs will yield more than 6" of drop.

Also, if you already have shackles, hangers, or some other form of drop part, you'll need the factory parts (@ least the front hangers) or the drop will be even greater.

I also want to do the axle flip, but want to remove a leaf or two out of the 8
there are now. Hoping to soften up the rear end, less truck like. Don't have lots of horsepower or a hauling a load, just a cruiser. Getting mixed responses.

I do have a drop kit on there, and I think I got rid of my brackets. Will get in there and look to see the difference. Looks like I am hoping for more than what I can have. worth a shot.

An option is to find someone w/a stock height truck that wants a milder drop than you. Make a deal for your stuff & include their stock brackets as part of the price tag. Or.... Hit up the classifieds for someone parting out a C10 w/the stuff you need to achieve your desired drop.
