This is a good idea. I'd rather just see people show their shops w/o the competition part. Obviously the most expensive shops will win and that's not what it's all about. It's about what rolls out or what gets done out on the gravel or under the tree. I am gathering materials to put up a carport for my '72. I haven't had a shop for a while now.

Nice shop! Didn’t mean to say contest. Just a place to go on site to get ideas & such.just because it costs alot of money . That doesn’t mean it has a a lot of creativity.i have built some man caves. Have in hard time figure in out how to post pic ..again hats off

I thought in the third pic I seen a shotgun paper towel holder. I think it is just a shotgun behind paper towels with close inspection. However, a shot gun paper towel holder is kind of neat.

Well my shop doesn't have the walls yet.... or a roof either. Truth be told I think the proper name for it is a driveway. I gotta try the "cardboard creeper" idea Yuccales. The ones with wheels don't have a parking brake for my garage

Your shop has a nice comfortable look to it. A nice place to spend time no matter what you are doing. I do have a 'building', but no work space. There's my carpet on he left!

There are some beautiful garages , Just like looking at magazine pictures to park your finished project . I have a "clean" room to store new and restored parts waiting to be installed and then I have my 2 1/2 car shop where all the dirty work happens and everything is on wheels to be able to move it out of the way while whatever I'm working on takes over any available shop floor space . Someday when I'm done building trucks I'll have polished floors and painted walls ...Someday

I once thought I had plenty of space for my projects.
Now,it's a real problem finding room to work! I'm a professional pilet,and this is 25 years of piling stuff! This is 1/3 of my shop.  Mike.

I did some shuffling around. My truck has moved from the "lift" where it normally sits to the side and my next (long term Project) has been moved. I am still cleaning and pitching my "piles". I have some heat so I can enjoy it during the winter.

Everytime I clean mine, it seems like within 30 minutes it is a mess again. The old shed off to the right is one of the reason we bought this place. That is where most of my work was done until I got the shop.

I have decided that there is no such thing as a "big enough shop".
I have creepers, but still prefer cardboard. I haven't had a shop at the house for about 18 years, but the wife sold this house, and I hope to get a new shop while she is building her new house.

My shop use to be 12 miles away from the house. My wife thought it would be nicer to have one closer to home so she paid to have this one built next to the house. Its 36x60 with a 16x36 loft. And my cave upstairs is 12x18 for my model hoard.

I would really like to know the age of the shop owners next to their amazing shops and all the wonderful tools they have collected, I have nothing but the most respect for The Baby Boomers aka the Last of the Mohicans as I like to call them, the generation that still repaired things and not replaced them, I am 46 myself and my generation may be the fragile link between the Boomers and their wrench turning values ~ VS ~ the (eh what-ever) Millenials that just seem to accept things as they are (yes there are some exceptions and it warms the heart to see young teenagers and 20 somethings turning wrenches, but generally speaking our future sons and daughters would rather take an Uber than rebuild a carb)
so thank you for reading my rant, the tone was meant to be positive and a salute to us, and our parents, and grandparents not much of a shop in these pics, still trying to settle in to our new(ish) house Last edited by Gregski; 11-17-2018 at 05:36 PM. |

Watching the show "Trans Am" the other night and one of the builds was a 73 super duty trans Am If I remember right well they had to call in a "specialist" to tune and time a carbed 455 as all the techs were only computer savvy and had no idea what to do ... The specialist had issues until he remembered the correct dist /spark plug order ...So Sad .

this thread just makes me think of that dumb Pollacks Walt Kowalski's shop from the fantastic Clint Eastwood movie Grand Torino - highly recommended if you haven't seen it (should be required viewing for car guys like us, lol)

Ill add my tiny little shop in here. I am lucky enough to be able to work on my truck at work, but now that we are closed on weekends till spring work will have to be done at the house. When we bought the house it was listed as having a 2 car garage(yeah right). It is almost 2 cars deep. At the time I had a regular cab Ranger and my wife had a PT Cruiser. They would fit if they were parked nose to nose and touching the inside wall. Now the garage is filled by my 65 C30 and a few tools. I have just enough room to work on the front of my truck. The pictures below are (top to bottom) my shop at work, my home shop, my tiny parking area and finally, what garage would be complete without a little art.
