OT IH Scout, steel gasket???
I have a '67 Scout with the 196 slant 4. I pulled the head due to crack and am in the process of putting it back together. The gaskets that came for it, marked IH on the box and are the same as the old ones, are stamped steel. The head gasket is composite, but the intake/exhaust gaskets are steel. When I put these on do I need to put a sealer around the intake ports and water jackets, or do I put them on bare?
I have never used shim type gaskets before and don't want to have intake leaks. Thanks.

I have never used them on a car, but I have used them with no problems on airplanes, and I just put them on bare. After it runs for a while I always go back and check the torque on the bolts. I would think that you would want to make sure the intake and exhaust mating surfaces are flat, maybe have them re-faced.
