Rear gas tank

With all rear gas tanks. Do you always have to cut part part of the bed support rail. In order for the bed to fit correctly on the frame. Or is there other rear gas tanks thank you can purchase that you won’t have to cut it.

Pretty much all the blazer tanks need to have some of the bed support removed. About 2” between the frame rails should do the trick.

I knew I should of done it before we sprayed the bottom of the bed with bed liner. Unless I go with a different tank. Thanks WB72

Boyd tanks fit without cutting any bed or frame supports......this under my 72 Blazer...C10 same...I can post long bed photo if you need it.

These are baffled aluminum tanks, about 17 gallons. Mine is a side fill...these photo's from 71 long bed, not using the efi on this 1. Tanks are set up either way, Spring shackle is right where the fill is, if your going lower you may want a top / bed fill....I have a brace on the rear cross member, from extra trailer hitch, nothing to do with the tank.

it was a aluminum tank with baffles, 19 gallon. under $439
fit great and no cutting required. THe best part for me was that the back of the tank was angled so you don't see the tank.
that's what I didn't like about the blazer tank or some others sold online, brothers trucks etc.

just have to remove bracket for spare tire.

I used the LMC bed fill tank PN 32-5981. It's basically a blazer tank with a modified top so you don't have to cut into your bed supports. Cost was $150. I then installed an Aeromotive Phantom fuel pump for my LS swap. I think there is a YouTube video on Stacy David's Gearz on this tank's installation. But remember you have to cut a hole in the bed to fill it.

Old_Truck is the LMC tank baffled? I was looking at the same setup and fuel pump for my LS swap but was worried about pump starvation. I have a 4x4 so a bit more movement in the back than a 2X that I need to plan for.

Old_Truck_Fan the tank I have looks like that one. Not sure if its from LMC. It came with the truck when we purchased it. Did you happen to measure the height of the tank?

Went with a Ford Mustang tank with 90 ohms sending unit from Tanks Inc., added a magnetic gas filler door from Yogi's, all welding in a smoothed out. Also changed out the standard cap for a no remove cap, just push the gas hose filler through the cap and fill. This fit with out any modifications to frame and the cost was reasonable.

The LMC tank is not baffled. However, the Aeromotive Phantom pump has an internal "foam bucket" that surrounds the fuel pump inlet. It is meant for converting stock fuel tanks to EFI without adding baffles. Holley also makes a similar setup but uses their hydramat to pull from the bottom of the tank. If you are planning to have some slow moving off road fun then I agree pump starvation could be an issue at low fuel levels. The Holley setup might give you the best articulation performance but I don't have any direct experience with it. Their videos of it are pretty neat.

I think it is around 12 inches from top to bottom which is right at the limit of the Aeromotive Phantom standard kit. (They have a longer pump arm available separately if needed.)

I ordered a 1959 Impala tank from Amazon for about $90 . I made the brackets and straps from some scrap , bought some floor matting from TSC and glued to the straps to protect the tank . Moved the cross member and cut an opening for the filler neck . About 4 hours and done . I’ll pick up a flip down license plate bracket from the junk yard to complete the installation.

I put a 31 gallon late 70s blazer tank in my 72. It fit right in there without modding the bed. I modded the blazer crossmember and bolted that in for the rear support. Easy day with factory straps and skid plate. The hard part to all this is how to fill it. There are a million ways to accomplish this. I ended up cutting a hole in the bed and running the filler tube up the bedside next to the stake pocket. This allows me to still put gas in it when being used as a truck. Alot of slicker ways for the cruising crowd.

How many gallons is this tank and how low does it hang? I currently have a 69 camaro tank in mine and it hangs really low.

The Impala tank is 29.25” x 27.75” x 7.25” so it doesn’t hang below the frame much at all . It’s a 16 gallon tank . I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out . Just waiting on the weather to improve so I can pickup a fold down license plate bracket and finish . I may have to shorten the fill neck an inch or so . Advance Auto had the same tank for about $100 delivered to the local store .

Currently my 68 head the lmc side fill... had to notch the crossmember and the filler neck made it a tight tight fit for routing... also the filler kneck is small, so filling up takes a while, and it's not ready for EFI, having to do inline pump, just bought a boyd tank,

I wanted additional capacity for my 71 4x4 and went with a 31 gallon Blazer tank. Did some work to mount it as close to the bottom of the bed as possible, and I fill it in the wheel well which is an option with a 4x4 that is raised a little bit. I have about 50 gallons capacity now, including the original tank.
