My Dads 78 Jimmy.

Just thought I'd share a picture of my dads 78 Jimmy. He's owned it since new, and he custom ordered it. It has a 3504bl, 4spd w/ creeper gear, heavy duty axles with I'm guessing around a 3.73 gear. Factory dual exhaust that never came with cats, PS, PB, no AC. The interior is a beige color, with some white, and the seats have the plaid pattern that was an option on these trucks. It has 67,000 original miles, and was repainted a few years ago. He's about to have it re-done again because it is rusting in the lower doors where it was previously repaired.

Only thing not original is the grill and the tires

Very nice original truck. 78 was the first year the cats were in heavy use on the 48 state trucks. I knew you could get a 3/4 ton with out the cats but I though all 1/2 had them.

Care to explain "heavy Duty axles". That's a new one on me on a 1/2 ton chevy. My guess is that truck has a Corp 10 front and a 12 bolt rear just like every other one. It does have a towing gear since it has a 3.73. Does it have a "Trailering special" badge on the rear 1/4' instead of the "Chyanne" badge?

The oddest set up I have seen is a 77 2wd blazer "trailering special" with 465 and 4.10 gears and a gov lock. 4.10's on a 26 inch tire must have been screaming!

I just sold a very original 79 at the begining of the year. Rust was starting to get the rockers. It had the hidious Red and white interrior. It was Black exterior with silver on the sides. It was my wifes DD. We called it "The Disco Chevy".

It does not say Cheyanne on it, its a GMC. Im not sure what he said, but he said on the option list he ordered "heavy duty suspension/axles". To be truthful I've never really looked under the truck, Im just going by what he said because he's the one that ordered it. He custom ordered the whole truck, and it was shipped into Allentown to the local GMC dealer (just closed this winter ) I'll try to get more pictures maybe this weekend.

Here is one of the interior, sorry the window is in the way. Oh, and the seats dont have holes in them, he's just afraid of wear marks, that also explains the steering wheel cover.

Ahhh well there is such a thing as HD suspension.

There were two different spring packs. One was soft and one was firm or HD. I think the front pack had 3leafs for the HD and the rear had 7 instead of 5. I think it may have got a brake upgrade as well. There is 2 inch and 2.25 inch wide brake drums. i think the HD got the 2.25's. I know in the 80's the HD got twin shocks on the front. Not sure when that started but I have not seen a 70's K5 with the Twins. Might exist and I just haven't seen it.

I find it amusing its a 4x4 considering the tires it came with (he still has them) They have no tread! They have little zig-zags other than that, they are flat. Im sure that did great in any kinda dirt/mud/snow.

G78's probably BF Goodrich I bet. I had one as a spare with my 75 when I bought it. It was the original A/T.

Are the rims on the truck the originals? they look like the optional Wagon wheels.

Here is a site you might like.

Hay Doug. Yeah I'm getting better. Back at work even.
They have me taking two fist fulls of pills a day. The pills make me feel like hell. In the morning I feel good right up till they kick in.
