Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
I am a little happy at the moment.
I am waiting to pick up this afternoon, a full, new, tank of R12. It has 17 pounds of freon in it. I have not seen a tank full for sale forever, then I just stumbled across this one. The guy bought a few just after they announced the impending ban, before the prices went silly. I will be able to return my Cadillac, which runs a TSV and doesn't like R134, to R12. I cant wait to get it in my hot little hands. Its the equivalent of 22 12oz cans. For under $200 |

I remember when you could get a .177 BB machine gun with a fantastic ROF that was propelled by ''cheap'' 12 oz freon cans. Never had one, but I recall the magazine ads.
Nice score.

Re: Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
Nice. I have a couple of cans of 12 left over.
I bought a 30# tank of R22 for use in the home air conditioner a couple years back. Shortly after charging up the old a/c it crapped out, for good. Now I have 25# of R22 and nothing to use it in. Sheesh!

Boog put it on craigslist for $400.00 if its about full that stuff is crazy expensive now. Its not being made anymore just filtered and re-packaged. When its gone its gone.

I know. I gave over $500 for that tank.

Re: Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
I have a HUGE stash of r12. It’s dirt cheap on CL now, just keep an eye out for it. Nobody uses it anymore so the days of ridiculous overpricing on it have passed . It’s a bad investment if you intend to flip it, but great if you actually use it.

Boog too bad you bought it while prices were high. And I too have a jug of R12. I seldom service anything R22 anymore its just not hardly worth it.

What guidelines do you use to ship freon? Being that it's a pressurized container and all.

That's even better.

Re: Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
Finding a tank of virgin R-12 is pretty rare these days. Most I've seen is recycled/recovered R-12 that is full of contamination.

The tank is still sealed up, just like new, the guy was a complete gentleman, older guy now retired, he gave me the original invoice, packing and some other bits and pieces of A/C service stuff. Maybe I am too trusting, but so far I have never been screwed over. This guy reminded me of my grandfather, he wants me to send him photos of my cars and let him know how they go with the R12 in them. I have been looking for some R12 for over 15 years, to have what is a lifetime supply in the shed makes me happy. |

Re: Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
I had a small leak in my AC that the techs could not find (buddy of mine) so I bought a new tank of R22 using his license for like $150. I found the leak shortly after (drank some good coffee and made a day of it) in the shrader valve. Now I got this tank of R22. Now what to do with it? Would it work in a car?

Not an expert, but I am pretty sure R22 is no good for cars, messes with the compressor.

Re: Just scored a great deal on some R12 (freon)
Have 2 sealed r12 tanks. Bought them before the ban dirt cheap. The parts store wanted to get them gone before they were stuck with them . Only car I have now that uses it is my 1964 hawk. Been using the one pounders to top it off every few years. Bought them for a buck a piece at wallyworld.
