Tire Width?
I have a 1965 C10 with the body at the painters so I can not measure or evaluate the width of the tires. I am converting over to disc brakes front and rear 5x5 pattern. I have researched and selected american torq II rims 16 x 8 with 4 inch back spacing which according to the research will fit nice. My question and concern is can I install 265 width tires and everything clear the fenders or do I need to go with a narrower tire? I am planning in the future to install 2.5 drop spindles in front and 3 inch drop springs in the back so I want to make sure these tires will still fit.

Re: Tire Width?
I am running 235's on 6 inch wheels in the front and 255's on 8's in the back. The rears will rub the wheel tubs when going in and out of steep driveways but I am at 5" of drop in the back. The rears did not rub with the first set of 255's but the new ones have a wider section width. The tire you choose will have a lot to do with how they fit. With 2 1/2" drop spindles, 2 inch springs the 15X8's on the front would not work with 255 tires, they hit the front fenders.

Re: Tire Width?
PSG
thanks for your reply I think I am only doing a 21/2 drop spindles in the front with the standard springs. The 3 inch drop springs are for the rear. Will that make a difference? |

Re: Tire Width?
265/70x16 are a pretty tall tire. I know they won't clear up front even just with spindle drop. Rear, I think mine would rub the top outer part of wheel well. It's just a big/tall tire if you are going to lower it.

Re: Tire Width?
so what do you think would be the widest tire size that would fit a 16 x 8 rim?

Re: Tire Width?
For the rear, you are going to have to find something that is 28" tall or shorter. With a 16" wheel, you are looking at a 255/60 or possibly a 295/50. One big factor is do you have a69 & older axle or a 70-72 rear axle. The later axles are 1.5" wider than the original width, which will effect your tires.
For the front I would say a tire 26.5" tall or less. Tires in 16" probably a 235/55 would work. If you can even find the tires in this size, I would suggest the 235/55x16 up front and the 255/60x16 for the rear. Again your rear end may effect that choice for the back.
