Seat Cover Question: 1965 GMC

Quick question for the experts in the 60-66' trucks:
Where is the best place to get a seat cover for a 65 GMC?
I have a '66...and the seat is good (for the moment) but my buddy just bought a 65 GMC that is fixing up and is looking to redo the seat or recover it soon.

So the options would be:
-The complete new (correct) seat cover
And/or
-The best reasonable (temporary) seat cover

any help or opinion from you guys in know on this would be great...

All good
Coley
(usually a '72 highlander guy....but getting ready to start putting the '66 into the mix)

Re: Seat Cover Question: 1965 GMC

To date, the only options other than custom/local shop work are to go with standard aftermarket covers (nothing like factory) that are available through many of the Chinese repop parts suppliers, or have an original type seat reproduced using NOS materials available from SMS in Oregon. I've heard the SMS way has not been easy for many owners, but when done they do look good.
To me, this situation represents a huge opportunity for a manufacturer to corner the market on a "similar to factory" cover. It's crazy that no one is doing this! It's well known and talked about frequently, but so far, nada.

I have used several of their seat covers and they are better than the originals. Very high quality and the fit is perfect.

Re: Seat Cover Question: 1965 GMC

I had mine rebuilt by a local furniture upholstery shop for $500. Repaired springs, new foam and marine vinyl. I called around to hot rod shops and got quotes around $1000. I've had it in for 4-5yrs now, cleans up perfect with a magic eraser and can handle the abuse of dogs, kids and me.

completely agree, there is indeed a market for correct covers. I was lucky with my 66, it's factory cover was in near perfect condition, and I dreaded the day when it got a rip in it. (that's not why I sold it )

Re: Seat Cover Question: 1965 GMC

There are quite a few options. All the repop suppliers sell seat covers, from one color vinyl to vinyl and tweed, even velour. Even Etsy has seat covers for our trucks and they will do custom colors:

Perfect example of the past and present situation. 1965 GMC seat covers shown in black and white. Different than Chevy. Searching for a color photo of GMC interior
