Shift No Go

I had a mech. install a new Holly 750 carb and It starts like it was suppose to when I installed the piece of junk Quickie carb 3 years ago. But as I was driving home the tranny wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, Fluid is full and it's a new tranny. All the vacuum tubes look to be connected and the tens cable too.
Call me ...

Transmission type?

Any chance the indicator needle is off and it is really in L1 while showing D?

Re: Shift No Go

Mine just did that this year on a turbo 350. Mine was a bad hose from the modulator but in my search it could be bad modulator or stripped gears in the Governor on the dr. side of tranny

700r4? Cable not set correctly.
Check the tv corrector at the carb.

Re: Shift No Go

Check your vacuum at the modulator. If it has vacuum, then it may be wet with trans fluid from a failed modulator. Hopefully the vacuum line got disturbed somehow and it's an easy fix.

Re: Shift No Go

I guess the modulator is on the trans? There are so many vacuum line's on these trucks That I'm not sure which is which.

Re: Shift No Go

A roughly 3" cylinder thing on the outside of the passenger side of transmission. Should have a 2" piece of vacuum hose into a metal tube that runs to the back of the intake manifold where a 2nd short hose connects to the intake port in front of the dizzy and behind the carb.

Since there was a new carb installation involved just before the problem started, I would suspect the connection to the intake was left off or knocked loose.

Re: Shift No Go

Looks like you have a T350C from the picture. The wvacumm modulator is the silver thing in the first picture. Can't tell for sure but look like the hose is split going into the modulator.

Also, the electronic connections for the convertor seem to be missing. I am not sure how that will effect things if that isn't connected.

Re: Shift No Go

I guess I'll have to find another shade tree mechanic. Which will be very hard since the hurricane wiped out most of the shops. I sure wished I lived near a big city.
