90 ohm gas sending unit?

I installed a new instrument cluster and was told that I need a 90 ohm instead of 30 for a more accurate reading. Does anyone know where I can get one? I’ve seen them on line but not sure because of angle on top of gas tank. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Speedway sells a fuel level interface that will let you match the gauge to your stock sending unit. It's pricey at $104.00 but you won't need to buy another sending unit and Make It Fit!

There is no such thing as an off the shelf 0-90ohm fuel sending unit for an in cab '60-'66 fuel tank. I assume that your new instrument cluster is not an original style cluster? If so, what about changing the fuel gauge to a 0-30ohm gauge? The other option would be to see if member Vin63 would be willing to make you a custom sending unit.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t know anything about 30 or 90 ohms. I do have a 30 ohm in the tank but it only reads a quarter of a tank and the tank is full. I read where if you have a new instrument cluster like I had dolphin instruments put in. It said to make sure you have a 90 ohm Sending unit. Maybe I installed the 30 ohm wrong? I appreciate the feed back.

The sending units for our trucks in the factory gas tank behind the seat operate on a 0-30 ohm range. The newer fuel level gauges work on 0-90 ohms, so with a full tank, a 0-30 ohm sending unit would only register around 1/4 to 1/3 on a gauge calibrated for 0-90 ohm operation. Have the opposite issue, Factory 66 gauge (0-30) using a 69 camaro tank (0-90) only fix is what I have seen here, I need a sender and pickup to fit the camaro tank to work with the oe 0-30 fuel gauge......

There is a (lack of better terms) converter module that will cover the 30 Ohms from tank unit to 90 Ohms for fuel gage. I used one when I changed to new instrument panel. Don't need it now after relocating tank which has current 90 Ohm tank gauge.

Let me know if your interested and I'll find it in the shop parts and advise manufacture and name of unit.

Possibly this will help someone else who happens across this. I ordered a sending unit for a 67 (which is 90 ohms). The fuel sender tube and top fitting is a bit different, but the resistor housing on the float arm is identical. I just swapped out the resistor housing by bending the little tabs up (very gingerly) on the housing, unscrewed the wire from the sender post and installed it on my stock sending unit. Now it works great.

Wish I’d seen this a couple of weeks ago. I paid quite a bit for a 90 ohms for my 61.

good info here so what is the last year of the 30 ohm gas guage my 65 gmc 4x4 is on a 80s frame and uses the 80s dual tanks looks like I need to get a 90 ohm aftermarket guage im thinking

well I hooked up a 90 ohm equis gas guage to the truck and so far so good easier than pulling 2 sending units and converting them to 30 ohms! 1 tank reads one tank burrys the needle to top of guage
