Door over close problem

so i took of my weather stripping and was gonna put on new new kit. but i discovered that the idiot who owned the truck before me replaced the rockers with ones that don't have the pinch weld along the rocker for my weather stripping. So now comes the bigger problem, I was upset and quit for the day to figure what what to do so I shut the doors and locked up come back out days later, driver door opens just fine passenger door? nope! will not budge i called my good friend mike he told me oh yeah he had it happen to him before the door is over closed now. With no weather stripping in it he said he had to pry his open with a pry bar! if this is the only way then so be it but I am just asking is their any other way to get it open again? without prying on it ? I really don't want pry it and most likely bend the metal of the door or the rocker or both ? I am asking is their another way to do this where i wont damage my truck? Thanks guys my buddy mike knows a bunch about these trucks so i trust him that is not a issue i just really want to get it open without hurting it ya know

Re: Door over close problem

you might try some plastic pry tools, i bought a cheap 10 piece set to take off trim on my toyota , i have put them to good use on my suburban. really helped put weatherstrip on my side windows and a few other general prying against metal jobs.

Problem is I don't think that plastic ones will be strong enough to pry open the door I have pulled with all my force and all my weight I weigh 400 lb to try and open this door and it won't open it won't budge so Something tells me that the door would just laugh at a piece of plastic trying to pry it open

Re: Door over close problem

well it involves a little work...one option is to remove the cowl extention...loosen the fender at the bottom to access the hinges to wiggle the front of door to try to separate the latch....or maybe access latch by removing door panel...Good luck

Re: Door over close problem

Before you start using pry bars and damaging the sheetmetal, try removing the front fender and cowl corner to access the hinges. Loosen the bolts that hold the hinge plate to the cab and door. Hopefully, by allowing the hinge mounts to move will take enough tension off of the door to allow it to open.

Everything is installed it's like this the doors were working just fine for years but I took off the old weather stripping to put on new stuff and could not put the new stuff on yet so I shut the door and ever since then I can not open it so yeah think of a full complete door minus the weather stripping

Re: Door over close problem

My suggestion would be to get your fried press the door button from the outside, apply pulling pressure on the handle while you hit the inside of the door with rubber handle. For more force you could use a piece of wood against door and use a 3 or 4 lb hammer. Hold wood tight against door at latch location.

Good Luck

Re: Door over close problem

hey guys thank you all of you for all your suggestions and valuable help!
I am happy to say that i got open before having to dismantle the cowl corner and the front fender. it is funny how bad it was jammed shut that nothing done not having a guy lay down put pressure with his feet and me hanging my full 400lbs on the handle just shook the truck all over lol nothing would make that SOB give. LOL in the end the guy inside rolled down my window and said hand my the pri bar he stuck it between the door and the door jam right where the latch would be and literately applied the amount of pressure it takes to crack your knuckle and it popped right open LOL with just me pushing the button no yanking no extra damage done and door it open soon i will be putting on my new weather stripping on and wont ever be a issue again lol but much thanks to all of you

Re: Door over close problem

I dunno, but I think if you had rolled down the window, and applied upward pressure at the rear corner window opening, it would have lifted the door off the part it was binding against. The weatherstripping will force the door up a bit and mask a misalignment

Yes sir no problem but I will say also the door was badly out of adjustment so a good re adjustment will also do wonders as well

The little rubber bumpers would also keep this from happening

Would this be a add-on or is there some from the factory that I'm missing I don't know about?
